More about Longines:

Founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz, Longines made a reputation for its sports watches. Famed aviator Charles Lindbergh wore a Longines, and explorer Louis Amédée de Savoie took a Longines to the North Pole. Additionally, a Longines watch timed the Olympics fourteen times.

For all this storied history of athleticism, Longines also makes elegant dress watches. The present example, dating from the 1950s, is--at 38mm--large for the period. The case is smooth, sturdy stainless steel, and the dial, with its oversized dimensions, (though showing small signs of age) hearkens to the designs of the current Master collection.
