More about Panerai:
In 2012, Panerai released two special editions that were designed based on vintage designs. The Radiomir California 3 Days (PAM00448) and Radiomir S.L.C. 3 Days (PAM00449) were both produced in only 750 examples.
Panerai used designs based on historic dials from the 1930’s that were original produced for the Italian Navy. The PAM00449 is referred to as “S.L.C.”, because of the “Siluro a Lento Corsa”, slow-speed torpedoes which the Italian Navy used on underwater missions. The original watches featured a large case and simple dial layout for easier readability, and blued steel hands. In keeping with the original materials used, the modern dials are protected by plexiglass crystals instead of the usual sapphire crystals.
The special editions featured the P.3000 caliber, which was created entirely in-house and has a power reserve of 3 days. This caliber also allows for adjustment of the hour hand to be moved one hour at a time, without interfering with the minute hand.
With the increased popularity of “tribute” models to vintage watches, the Panerai Radiomir S.LC. has been recognized as a successful special edition tribute to the brand’s history. With a dial design and case that are inspired by the vintage models, and a modern in-house movement, the PAM00449 is sought after by Paneristis and watch enthusiasts alike. The present example is in like new condition, and will be enjoyed for years to come.
